Yesterday, my 13-year-old daughter asked me how to play her sport with greater confidence. I told her that:
She needed to make certain that the sport she was playing was the one she most wanted to play (for public speakers, one should substitute speech content for sport: are you saying what you want to say, the way you'd want to say it? Are you being your authentic self, or pretending to be someone else?). And...
She needed to work hard on those areas where she felt uncertain: to practice her moves until they became second nature and didn't require any thought, or left room for doubt (one should practice the delivery of one's speech until they feel as if they are speaking off the cuff: that is, with energy, fluidity, and ease...)
I think she got it...
